Brief into. On the Hazaras
The Hazaras are the second largest ethnic group in Afghanistan and the least well known group among the people of Afghanistan. They are largly Shi'a Muslims by religion although Hazaras are also Sunni and Ismaeli Muslims as well. They are a Farsi-speaking people that speak with their own traditional dialect known as "Hazaragi" (Ha-za-ra-gee). They traditionally and historically inhabit the "Hazarajat" region which is central Afghanistan. Due to the countless wars in Afghanistan, they are scattered across the country and also in neighboring counties in large numbers. The Hazaras have very recently come into a more influential position within the country's social fabric because it's tribally based pyramidal structure has been disrupted over the years.
